My dad passed away just about a year ago and I have been thinking about painting his camera ever since. As a design engineer, my dad was always interested in machines and mechanics and as a child I was...not. But his camera seems to me to be a point of convergence between his mechanical world and the artistic world that I preferred. A place where we could meet.
Instead of the camera's lens, I've painted a memory of camping on the shores of Lake Superior, watching the Northern Lights.
When I was setting up my website I chose the tagline "heartfelt watercolor" because it captured how I feel about painting. As Marc Chagall wrote, "Art must be an expression of love or it is nothing." I know that if my dad were here, he would love this painting.
